In this project, a disused 19th-century canalside, tower building is converted into a small office block with suites of offices on each floor. The building is tightly bound by Grand Canal Quay to the west, the Grand Canal to the east, the railway to the north and a small open area to the south.
The scheme involves the introduction of a freestanding glazed stair and lift tower to the south to serve the building. Aesthetically, a clear disctinction is made between the loadbearing character of the existing building and the more transparent lightweight contemporary elements of the core and penthouse.
Together they form a complementary composition of old and new.
