This proposal comprises a high quality 107 room hotel building on a prominent corner site adjacent to Parnell Square, with a restaurant and retail unit on ground floor. In urban design terms the scheme completes the city block to the adjoining streets and redefines the street edge while simultaneously completing the vista south along Parnell Square West.
The scheme proposes an aesthetic and appearance that is derived clearly and directly from the hotel’s primary arrangement of repetitive bedrooms. The order of the room width is generally expressed elevationally and the infill to this bay system is comprised of a large glazed panel, a glazed sliding door and a solid ventilator panel. It is proposed that the wall material be floor height honed high quality insulated precast concrete panels with a terracotta/ sandstone colour. This choice of colour and finish will create a tonal relationship and a visual connection with the brick of the many buildings nearby.
This general palette of materials will provide an architecture of clarity and elegance in this important location.
